Interview with Rory H Mather

Our first guest today has his finger on the pulse and his ear to the ground when it comes to knowing what’s hot, who’s got a new book, what events are out there, and everything an aspiring author or illustrator needs to keep up to speed with. Hayley in the Library

Our next guest is another friend of the show, she’s an all-important teacher librarian. I say all-important because we are a huge fan of teacher librarians on this show.

These are the amazing people on the front line doing the most amazing work getting kids of various ages and backgrounds interested in books. And, from an author or illustrators’ point of view, it’s so important to know what kids are reading, why they’re reading what they are and what gets them fired up about books. So, please welcome Hayley in the Library.

National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) is held annually by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA). Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country.

Now in its 22nd successful year, it is a colourful, vibrant, fun event that aims to promote the value of reading and literacy, using an Australian children’s book that explores age-appropriate themes, and addresses key learning areas of the National Curriculum for Foundation to Year 6.
